Setup and Ball Position (Putting)

Welcome back to another insightful putting tip session with Henry Fall from Milo Lines Academy and Dana Finkelstein from the LPGA Tour. Today, we're diving into the crucial elements of your putting setup, focusing specifically on ball position and other essential fundamentals that can make a world of difference in your game.

When it comes to ball position, Henry suggests placing the ball about a putter length off your left toe. Coupled with a slight natural bend over the ball, eyes just inside the ball, and a touch of shaft lean, this setup ensures consistent and accurate ball contact. Dana adds that a key marker is having the ball aligned with your left ear. Going too far back could result in unwanted ball striking issues.

Maintaining a slight weight shift towards your left side enhances your alignment and propels your motion toward the target. Additionally, keep your shoulders and arms relaxed, avoiding excessive crunching or tilting. A balanced shoulder line is crucial for a controlled stroke.

Before hitting the greens, consider these setup pointers. Capture your setup on video from a face-on angle, enabling you to analyze your ball position and alignment. Don't hesitate to use alignment sticks or a chalk line to fine-tune your setup and get your putting game on par. By mastering these fundamentals, you're primed to elevate your putting precision and consistency. Happy putting!
